1).What sorts of tools can we use to enhance our student's ability to think intelligently? (145-46). [Analyze]
2). Why are IQ tests and actual achievement not a perfect corollary? How might it look if we have a low achiever in the class that has a high IQ? (143). [Evaluate]
1. We, as teachers, could give them tool such as symbolic systems and social groups to enhance their environment and make it easier for them to think intelligently. We could also enhance and support the student's intelligence rather than measuring how intelligent they are. We should ask how can we help our students think more intelligently instead of asking how intelligent are our students.
ReplyDelete2. They are correlated, but just because a student has a high IQ and does well in school we cannot conclude that their high achievement is the result of their intelligence. Intelligence is important, but there are many other factors that come into play as well. IQ tests also predict performance on traditional academic tasks better than they predict performance on everyday, real-world tasks.
The low achiever with a high IQ in the class may not want to do their work because it seems too easy so they have no motivation to do it because it is so easy for them. They may be really smart, but put forth little to no effort in their academic work.
